Interview: The Future of Gifting - Digital, Sustainable, Magical

Welcome to the media magic of veryuu — here you’ll find everything about our mission, founders, and digital gift ideas. From interviews to numbers, images, and logos: everything compact, clear, and ready to use.

What can veryuu do?

veryuu finally brings gifting properly into the digital world. We don’t just translate the idea of gifting — we reshape it, maybe even reinvent it a little: emotionally, sustainably, and with a true unwrapping experience. Gifting thrives on anticipation, surprise, and feeling. Until now, digital gifts completely lacked that.

What problem does veryuu solve?

Digital gifts today are often handed over without love: as an email attachment, or a DIN-A4 printout with a bow. Practical — yes. Beautiful — no. What’s missing is the packaging, the magic, the moment. veryuu fills this exact gap and transforms digital content into real gift experiences.

What makes veryuu different from classic vouchers or tickets?

With veryuu, it’s not just about handing over a code. Gifts are unwrapped interactively — with animations, storytelling, mini-games, and moments of surprise. You don’t just open a gift — you experience it.

Who is veryuu for?

For anyone who wants to give a gift — whether for friends, family, partners, or colleagues. Especially when distances are involved or spontaneity is required. veryuu works worldwide, instantly, and sustainably.

Vision & Approach

Why gifting matters — even digitally

Because gifting is a societal necessity. We don’t just give because we want to — often, we give because we need to: to maintain connection, show attention, express appreciation. And it’s not just about products — it’s about thought, time, and meaning.

Across cultures and nations, there are special moments in the year when we pause and consciously strengthen relationships. Digital gifting isn’t a replacement for that — it’s a modern extension: it carries the same meaning, just in a form that can reach anyone, anywhere, at any time.

What role does sustainability play at veryuu?

A very big one — but not as sacrifice, rather as progress.
Digital gifts save paper, printing, packaging, shipping, and transport.

A classic physical gift with card, wrapping paper, and shipping produces, on average, 500–1,500 g CO₂ depending on distance — often much more internationally.
A digital gift sent via veryuu requires no paper, no transport, no packaging — saving over 1 kg of CO₂ per gift.

Even more importantly: it’s not a compromise, but a magical, emotional alternative that works worldwide — whether the recipient lives in the same city or on another continent.

In short: no paper, no shipping, no supply chains, no extra waste — and a measurable reduction in CO₂ per gift.

But sustainability alone isn’t enough, right?

A purely “eco-friendly” gift that feels cold, careless, or purely functional won’t be embraced. That’s why our approach is: Sustainability + Emotion. veryuu is neither a substitute nor a compromise — it’s a magical alternative.

We combine global, resource-conscious gifting with anticipation, beauty, and real unwrapping moments. This creates a form of gifting that fits our times: global, digital, responsible — and emotionally connecting.

Do you think a digital gift is more than commercial gifting — maybe even a mindset?

Exactly. A digital gift is a choice — not just an object.
We don’t just create products; we shape the way people give today: instead of the tenth handbag, you might think of a yoga session, a massage, or a shared experience that truly fits. And that’s exactly what we focus on: gift and digital packaging are one — interactive, emotional, magical.

The Founders

Who’s behind veryuu?

We are Kathrin and Gunnar. What unites us is the belief that every gift deserves a stage — even digitally — and, of course, our love.

Kathrin, what is the emotional origin of veryuu?

veryuu grew out of a very quiet, personal need: the desire for anticipation.
There was a time when our everyday life consisted of doctor appointments, check-ups, and waiting. Not loud, fascinating, or trendy — but intense. And amidst all that, a simple, strong question emerged: How do you keep hope, lightness, and confidence alive?

Back then, I began consciously creating anticipation. As a little countdown: four days to go, three days to go, one day — until home, until normality, until the next beautiful moment. This anticipation became an inner anchor.

From this grew the idea of digital gifting.
Not as a product. But as a feeling.
Something you can open, on the go, spontaneously. It grew step by step. With expectation. With glimmers of light. Hope. Vision.

veryuu is based on this experience: that anticipation has power. That waiting becomes easier when there’s something to look forward to. And that gifting — even digitally — can be exactly that: a quiet companion saying, “Something wonderful is coming.” — something you can open.

What drives you personally?

It was never about “career” or “success.” It was the quiet, deep conviction that this idea could bring something good into the world.
veryuu was created in many small moments — often early in the morning, when the house was still and the children were asleep. These were my times for thinking, dreaming, and creating.

I believe that things can be built with heart and integrity — even slowly, even with detours. Especially when life is full. veryuu is proof to me that visions can find space, even between everyday life, responsibilities, and family. And that from this, something truly special can emerge.

I have been deeply exploring since 2015 how to stage joy beautifully in the digital world. The first version of veryuu went online in 2018. What began as the idea of “giving joy digitally” gradually became the “digital gift wrapping.”

I have always loved gifting. For me, unwrapping is a magic of its own. I am a developer, a non-giver-upper, a journalist, a designer — and above all, someone who loves creating little dream worlds. My goal is that everyone can experience this special moment, whether analog or digital.

Why do you think digital gifting has developed so little until now?

Because no one really focused on the unwrapping moment. Honestly, it’s almost ironic: almost everything has advanced technically in the tiniest detail — complex, sophisticated, perfected.
Gifting, however, despite being a huge market, has basically stayed the same: paper wraps the gift. Bow on top. Done. Functional, but never truly understood as an experience, a market, or an emotional topic. That’s exactly the gap veryuu fills.

Technology has been functional, but not emotional. Yet digital is far from cold — it can sparkle, surprise, connect.

Gunnar, what is your role at veryuu?

I bring the entrepreneurial perspective to this gifting world. I’ve worked in finance, and earlier in advertising agencies. I make sure creative visions work within a business framework. Sustainability is important to me — both privately and professionally — which aligns perfectly with the veryuu idea. I joined in 2023 and immediately saw the potential of this concept.

What is your vision for the future?

We want to redefine digital gifting. Move away from loveless printouts and email attachments toward magical experiences. Gifts should be given worldwide, anytime, with real emotion — and, most importantly, unwrapped with shining, hopeful eyes.

Your motto in one sentence?

veryuu — here, you gift magically beautiful.
